Dear members, adherents and friends of Clinton United Church,

Happy spring!  The weather has finally changed.  We had some April showers, but precipitation in the form of freezing rains and snow has not stopped May flowers from appearing!  As the trees begin to develop their leafy beauty once again, we want to bring you up to date on happenings at Clinton United...

While most of you already know, some of you have not yet heard that our minister, Randy Covey, is retiring after five and a half years' service in our community.  This is his final "settled" position in the United Church of Canada.  He will stand down at the end of June and will take up a one year appointed position in Cambridge.  His final worship service will be June 10, and it will be an opportunity to wish him and Sharon God’s blessing on their future endeavors to present them with parting gifts, and to share food and drink amongst ourselves following the service.

The process of replacing Rev. Covey has begun.  A committee has been struck and we hope to have Presbytery approve the vacancy before the summer.  While this process unfolds, we will be served by various local clergy, diaconal ministers and lay readers.

Once again, a successful community turkey dinner was organized by our supper committee.  Over six hundred meals were prepared by dozens of volunteers who contributed food, their time and their energy to cook and serve the food, wash up the thousands of dishes and utensils, and store and replace the many chairs and tables to their usual locations.  A huge Thank You to all who contributed!  Almost seven thousand dollars was raised.

For the past number of years, a variety of renovations and repairs have been conducted at our church.  A major project has been to repair the windows in the sanctuary and the entrance of our building.  Thanks to your contributions, and a financial donation from Presbytery, the final four windows can now be restored.

We would be remiss if we did not recognize the quiet work done by our dedicated Pastoral care committee members and the United Church Women who assist Rev. Randy in reaching out to the shut-ins and sick with visits, sympathy cards, phone calls and other messages of support.  In a real sense, we are a family, and we hope that, as we move through this year, we will do this with a sense of purpose, continuing to reach out to those in need, and supporting one another as we seek to live out the Gospel message.
